It all began with one woman's devotion to her birds, and it is this lifelong joy that led to ParrotNutz Parrot Treats.

Like most of us, she worked hard to provide her flock with a happy & healthy lifestyle. She gave them a safe, stimulating environment, loving companionship, and a healthy varied diet. As part of their daily routine, she often handed out a commercially-prepared parrot treat to each of her birds.

However, she began to notice that instead of enjoying the treat, her birds would often pick out a few small morsels and drop the rest, or sometimes not even touch the treat at all.

Most parrots love treats, so she was surprised. She examined the store-bought parrot treats and noticed that many of them were dry and cakey, often accompanied by a tasteless smell. The shapes were uninspiring and some of the ingredients seemed more like "fillers" than nutritious foods.

Wanting to offer her flock healthy parrot treats without worrying about additives or ingredients, she began to bake her own recipes. Using only the finest fruits, vegetables and grains, she developed readily accepted, parrot-approved goodies for her flock.

Friends and family started requesting batches; someone suggested that she sell them, and the idea for ParrotNutz Parrot Treats began to take shape.

With the launch of ParrotNutz.com in April 2005, ParrotNutz Parrot Treats became an instant hit with the feathered set and the humans that care for them. The fun Logs, Nuggets & Squares designed to appeal to a parrot's tactile needs (as well as for human entertainment) were eagerly devoured by parrots of all species.

Parrot owners who purchased ParrotNutz Parrot Treats found that they were very different from any other treat found on the market. Moist and flavorful, the treats contained whole grains and seasonal fruits & vegetables rich in vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients. The ingredient pieces were left large enough to add interesting texture, but small enough to discourage "morsel-picking".

Customers really appreciated that these nutrient-dense treats were made without artificial preservatives, chemical additives and fillers. Customers became repeat customers, repeat customers told their friends who then became customers and word of beak began.

We seek out the freshest, most colorful produce of the season from farmer's markets, family farms and local greengrocers. We frequent health food & specialty shops near and far to gather the finest grains, seasonings and other dry goods for our recipes.

As time goes on and word of beak spreads, customers often ask for different shapes, sizes, flavor variations, parrot-friendly versions of bakery items, and "do-it-yourself" mixes and meals. ParrotNutz offers custom orders to help our customers tailor products to their birds' needs.
